February 2012

______________________________________________________________

Greetings,

Welcome to the beginning of the end of winter. Little month, big news:

Rain Monsters

Brand New CD! Rain Monsters is finished and it's my best recording to date. It's got 12 instrumental funky, rocking, haunting tracks. A few outstanding guests contributed their considerable talents: Matt Berger (drums), Josh Feinberg (sitar) and Ruthie Dornfeld (fiddle). This is a musical expression of my experience in Portland (Pourtland, Puddletown, Stumptown), home of brews and barristas, clubs and clowns, tattoos and tutus – an alliterative amalgam of attributes, but with no words.

Tracks on Rain Monsters include: Denmark (who's Portland Cello Project recording has received numerous accolades), Fiddler on a Hot Tin Roof a brand new 300 year old tune) and Ukulalen which is my ukulele debut - look out Tiny Tim. Two of the tracks (Love and Jello) have appeared on the TV show, Weeds. It's a veritable psychedelic pswirl of pstyles.

The CD is currently available right here at this website on the music shop page

You can also buy any two titles for $25

Cello Shots

Late in December I released Cello Shots, my first ever compilation CD. It's something I've been meaning to do for some time, but I wanted to have 15 or 16 albums under my belt before rushing into it... Cello Shots is an uptempo, energetic collection – not the usual navel-gazing repertoire that leaves you rushing for the medicine cabinet.

Dave Longey outdid himself with the cover art for this and Rain Monsters. The artwork for Cello Shots caught the eye of folks at Disc Makers who want to include it in some of their marketing materials. I've been waiting for years to sell out. So close now.

EMP

Friends of mine were recently at the Experience Music Project (EMP Museum) in Seattle where they saw the Denmark video playing on their giant 100 foot screen. It's kind of amazing to me that this video is still getting so much attention. Nearly 210,000 views on Youtube. That and 8 bucks will get you a latte in Copenhagen.

Digital Downloads

Save a few bucks... and a tree. CelloBop CDs (ther round flat shiny plastic things) are available right here at this website. But digital downloads are all the rage. Here's a list of my albums currently available as mp3 downloads, along with links.

Sonic Surf (brand new, electric and acoustic cello)

The Cabinet Of Dr Caligari(silent film soundtrack)

Dancing On My Hat (with guitarist Mark Herschler)

Ghost in the Attic (with guitarist Mark Herschler)

Hologram Crackers ( electric looping cello)

Ukrainian Pajama Party (in case you thought you'd heard it all)

CelloTales (kids album with storyteller Leeny del Seamonds)
